New design and dynamic analysis for deploying rolled booms with thin wall

Abstract: The primary aim of this study is to control the deployment of an inflatable rolled boom with extremely thin wall. For this purpose, a mechanism is designed to control the deployment speed of the rolled boom, and the efficacy of the mechanism is experimentally verified. In addition, a new mod0eling method is proposed to predict the dynamic behavior of the deployment process of the rolled boom by using experimentally determined parameters. The computational results are consistent with the experimental ones. The moment parameters obtained from the experiment of an inflatable rolled boom 1.6 m long are also useful in simulating a longer boom. (期刊无摘要,此摘要为该文简介)
